Biodiesel in New York
Biodiesel production has traditionally been considered a rural business reliant on crops such
as soy and canola. However, with the advent of new technology capable of processing waste products
into fuel, urban markets such as New York City can now play a major role in meeting market demands.
Through collection offered by RWA Resource Recovery, New York City can capture its own cooking waste
and create cost efficient, locally produced, cleaner fuel.
Currently, there are no commercial biodiesel production facilities in New York City and only one in
New York State. RWA Resource Recovery is exploring ways to collect trap grease as well.
