Blue goes Green—
If you live or work in New York City or have visited within the past 11 years, you’ve
probably seen The Doe Fund’s men in blue sweeping the streets. The men in blue are a
part of the Ready, Willing & Able Community Improvement Project, which rain or shine
cleans over 150 miles of New York City streets in 4 boroughs. Every day these men have
an immeasurable impact on improving the quality of life for New Yorkers.
Now the men in blue are going green. RWA Resource Recovery is dedicated to collecting
waste cooking oil from food service establishments and recycling it into ASTM standard
biodiesel — a cleaner burning alternative to petroleum diesel.
RWA Resource Recovery adheres to the same high standards of the Ready, Willing & Able
Community Improvement Project: consistent, friendly service that helps beautify New York
City, all while reducing homelessness.
RWA Resource Recovery is The Doe Fund’s fourth social enterprise. Other ventures include:
All of The Doe Fund’s ventures create jobs for formerly homeless individuals
re-entering the work force. All Doe Fund workers, including those in RWA Resource
Recovery, are participants in or graduates of the Ready, Willing & Able program.
The Ready, Willing & Able program requires full-time paid work coupled with
transitional housing, access to social services, and mandated, frequent drug
testing. To date The Doe Fund’s Ready, Willing & Able program has graduated nearly
3,000 formerly homeless people into lives of self-sufficiency. To learn more, please
